On June 14, Cypress Village celebrated the 244th birthday of the United States Army with cake, drinks and comradery. Residents and associates alike shared stories of their service, laughed at fond memories and celebrated residents’ patriotism through a best-of-service presentation. The United States Army is the oldest branch of the United States Armed Forces. Established by the Continental Congress on June 14, 1775, a year before the signing of the Declaration of Independence, it is the largest military branch in the U.S. to date. June 14 is Flag Day and the POW/MIA flag was flown with the United States flag at Cypress Village. Flying the POW/MIA flag is in accordance with the Defense Authorization Act, Public Law 105-85, section 1082, signed by President Clinton on Nov. 18, 1997.
Cypress Village is home to more than 150 veterans from several branches of military service, and celebrations regularly honor those who served our country.
On Aug. 4, the Village will celebrate the 229th birthday of the U.S. Coast Guard.
