A 19-year-old woman died and the passenger was listed in critical condition after a wreck about 11:40 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, in Ponte Vedra Beach according to a news release from the Florida Highway Patrol. The wreck occurred off of State Road A1A near Corona Road. The name of the driver will be released pending notification of next of kin.
The driver, a 19-year-old Jacksonville woman, was traveling northbound on A1A approaching Corona Road well above the posted speed limit according to the release. Witnesses cited in the release reported the 2003 Nissan traveled off of the roadway onto the right shoulder where its left side struck a tree. The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. She was wearing a seatbelt. The passenger, Jensy Yadalis Ramos Vigil, 19, of Jacksonville, was transported to Memorial Hospital. She was not wearing a seatbelt according to the release.
