First Coast offers array of summer camps and workshops

Summer is soon approaching, prompting parents to ask the question: How am I going to keep my kids busy? Look no further: Here’s a small sampling of the camps and workshops to be held in our area over the next few months.

Bud Beech Summer Camp

Bud Beech Summer Camp will hold weekly camps for kids ages 6-13. Held throughout June and July, the camps run Monday to Thursday with activities including basketball, soccer, dance, games, sports fitness and more. Families can choose to send their kids for a full day of camp from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. or a half day from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. or noon to 3 p.m. Before June 1, each full day of camp costs $30, while each half day costs $15. Surf Into Summer Surf Camp

Surf Into Summer Camp offers weekly surf camps in both Ponte Vedra Beach and Jacksonville Beach for kids ages 6 and up. Focusing on ocean awareness, surfing techniques, surf etiquette and proper equipment and wave selection, the camps run Monday to Friday from 8:45 to 11:45 a.m., with the first camp scheduled for the week of May 29 and the last slated for the week of August 7. Witt Tennis Camp

Led by Beaches resident and nationally recognized tennis coach Danny Witt, this camp focuses on fundamentals, techniques and the “ABC’s” of tennis – agility, balance and coordination. Students are grouped into two main groups (beginner/intermediate levels and advance/majors/high performance levels) and use compression balls and specialized focus based on age and level of skill. Witt’s program for kids ages 6-12 will run for three weeks throughout June (12-16, 19-23 and 26-30) from 9 a.m. to noon. To learn more, visit www.witttennis.net.

 

Nocatee Summer Camps

Nocatee will offer weekly themed summer camps for Nocatee residents beginning the week of June 5 through the week of July 31. The camps feature a range of activities from unique arts and crafts projects to team building, nature walks, sports, swimming and water games. Scheduled Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., the camps are for children ages 5-12, costing $185 per child, per week. Discounts apply for siblings. Summer Theater Camp at Alhambra

The Cultural Center at Ponte Vedra Beach and Alhambra Theatre & Dining will offer theater camps for aspiring actors or those who want to experience theater and acting for the first time. The camps run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and conclude with a three-course dinner and a final performance by campers of “The Great Ghost Chase.”

For kids ages 9-12, the camp is scheduled to run July 3-14, with the dinner and performance slated for July 17. For kids over 13, the camp will be held between July 24 and Aug. 3, with the dinner and performance scheduled for Aug. 7. Camp Cummer

The Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens is hosting Camp Cummer for seven weeks throughout June and July, providing children the opportunity to learn and explore art and art techniques. The cost per week is $180 for museum members and $215 for non-members.

The camp’s first six weeks (June 5-9, 12-16, 19-23, 26-30 and July 10-14 and 17-21) are intended for children entering grades 1-6. Middle School Camp Cummer for students entering grades 6-9 will be held from July 24-28. To learn more, visit www.cummermuseum.org/events/type/camp-cummer.

 

Apex Theatre Studio Summer Camps

Christ Episcopal Church Summer Camps

Three summer camps at Christ Episcopal Church still have space for additional participants. Nourishing Eats ($225), to be held June 5-8, takes kids ages 8-12 through different regions of France as they learn about kitchen safety techniques and regional culinary history, all the while gaining hands on cooking experience. From June 26-30, My Many Colored Days ($200), which is based on Dr. Suess’ book, will provide kids ages 4-6 the opportunity to learn about animals, colors and music.
