The Lightner Museum has announced the relocation of its Museum Store to a prominent new location at the main entrance to the Lightner building at 75 King St. Historically, this location was home to luxury goods store Greenleaf and Crosby, which served the Gilded Age guests of Henry Flagler’s Hotel Alcazar in the 1890s.
A private museum members-only shopping preview will take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 27. The store will open to the public on Friday, March 28. Its hours of operation will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., seven days a week. The new Museum Store will offer an array of distinctive merchandise inspired by St. Augustine and the museum’s iconic building, the former Hotel Alcazar. Shoppers can also explore items related to the museum’s unique collection and changing exhibitions.
“Our new store aims to deepen the visitor experience at the Lightner Museum, offering guests opportunities to further engage with the history and culture of St. Augustine,” said Ray Eme, associate director and manager of retail operations. “This move not only enhances our ability to serve our current audience but also allows us to reach a larger number of visitors to St. Augustine.”
The relocation of the Lightner Museum Store reflects the museum’s continued commitment to community engagement and supports the vibrancy of downtown St. Augustine. Proceeds from the store will directly support the museum’s exhibitions, preservation efforts and educational programs that provide access to more than 5,000 K-12 students annually.
Founded in 1948 by Chicago publisher, collector and professional hobbyist Otto C. Lightner, the museum offers an immersive experience of art, architecture, history and design. The museum occupies the former Hotel Alcazar, a Gilded Age resort hotel commissioned by Standard Oil executive Henry Flagler.
Completed in 1888, the Spanish Renaissance Revival building was designed by the prominent architecture firm of Carrère and Hastings.
