As we pass the halfway point of the school year, there are many activities the Nease High School Band has been preparing for.
On Feb. 24, the school held an elective fair for incoming freshmen zoned for Nease. This was a chance for incoming freshmen to learn about electives offered at Nease, including band. Incoming freshmen interested in taking band were encouraged to stop by the band room to see the band in action.
The Nease band is hard at work practicing for their upcoming Concert Band Music Performance Assessment (MPA) to be held at Flagler Palm Coast High School on Feb. 28.
The Concert Band Music Performance Assessment (MPA) is an opportunity for the Nease Band and their peers from other high schools to perform in a formal concert setting that is evaluated by noted experts in the field of band performance. In addition to performing and receiving critical evaluations on their own performance, the Nease Band will hear performances and evaluations of other bands in their district.
Mulch fundraiser
Spring is right around the corner. Time to refresh your yard. The Nease Band Much Drive is in full swing. This important fundraiser helps fund the Nease Band program. Proceeds are used to purchase and repair instruments, maintain uniforms and fund other opportunities for the band.
The last day to purchase mulch is March 18. Mulch is $5 per bag and each bag contains 2 cubic feet. This year, the band is selling three types of mulch: small nugget pine bark, brown mulch, black mulch.
Order five bags or more and delivery is free. Orders of fewer than five bags can be picked up at Nease High School (bus loop). Delivery and pick-up date is March 28. For more information, email mulch@neaseband.org. To order, go to nease.boosterhub.com.
Up next
Looking into April, there are several events planned. The band will perform at the Solo-Ensemble MPA, date not yet finalized. April 14 is a spirit night fundraiser at South Kitchen in Nocatee, and the public is invited to come out and support the band. April 22 is the band banquet, and the Nease Band will celebrate achievements, dedication and talent of the members and everyone who works hard to make the Nease Band.
