Last year, Ponte Vedra High School students brought the 1960s to life with their musical production of “Hairspray.” This year, students will offer their take on the big hair and music of the 1980s through the spring musical production of “The Wedding Singer.”

To be presented at 7 p.m. April 14 and 15 and 2 p.m. April 16 at Ponte Vedra High School, “The Wedding Singer” is based on the Adam Sandler movie that follows the romantic exploits of popular New Jersey wedding singer Robbie Hart (to be portrayed by sophomore Chase Pittman). When Robbie’s fiancée leaves him at the altar, his career as a wedding singer seems all but over. Then he meets Julia (senior Sarah Stepp and sophomore Olivia Wolford), a waitress engaged to marry a Wall Street shark (sophomore Ian Deal).

With energetic dance numbers and an original score featuring songs such as “It’s Your Wedding Day,” “Grow Old With You” and “Move That Thang,” “The Wedding Singer” features a cast of more than 60 PVHS students. The show is directed by Joe Kemper, with senior Anna Scheckenback serving as assistant director. Curtis Powell is the show’s musical director, while Carole Dickens and Carl Liberatore serve as choreographer and technical director, respectively.

Admission to “The Wedding Singer” is $15 general admission and $10 for students. Ponte Vedra High School is located at 460 Davis Park Road in Ponte Vedra.
