The Social Society welcomed the community to gather on Saturday, Aug. 9, from 3 to 6 p.m. for a Back-to-School Block Party fit for the whole family.
The event struck a sweet balance between practical and playful. While parents browsed shelves stocked with new notebooks, decorative pencils and other school-year must-haves, kids were happily flexing their creative muscles with a free journal-making station.
Blank notebooks were just the beginning. Tables were spread with an inviting mess of colorful stickers, markers, glue sticks and old magazines ready to be snipped for inspiration. Little hands flipped through pages, cutting out words and pictures, arranging them into covers and collages that were entirely their own.
The Social Society founder, Seri Kertzner, said the response from the community was more than she could have hoped for.
“We are so proud of the gem that we have created in our community,” Kertzner admitted.
That pride only grew when Kertzner received a voice memo from a customer after the event. A mom who attended the block party with her daughter shared that her daughter had a tough school year with friends, and she’d been meaning to make a journal with her as a way to share feelings, but never found the time.
At the block party, the customer’s daughter dove into the craft table, creating a journal full of heart and decorated with stickers that reflected her feelings and confidence for the year ahead.
It’s the kind of story that perfectly captures what The Social Society has become. Not just a place to shop, but a place to connect.
For parents, the block party was more than just a chance to check items off the supply list. It was a reminder that back-to-school season isn’t just about getting ready for the year ahead, it’s about sending kids into it feeling confident, supported and ready to unleash their creativity.
The Social Society is planning several more school-related events for children in the community, including a few that invite local homeschoolers to join in on the fun. For a full list of upcoming events, go to thesocialsociety.com.
